The Devil Unchained: The Ten Deaths of Rasputin

<itunes:subtitle>Founding President Warren Carroll delivered an intriguing talk on the infamous Grigori Yefimovich Ra</itunes:subtitle>

Founding President Warren Carroll delivered an intriguing talk on the infamous Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin entitled "The Devil Unchained: The Ten Deaths of Rasputin."

Rasputin influenced the later days of the Russian Tsar Nicholas II, his wife the Tsaritsa Alexandra, and their only and sickly son Alexei and helped to discredit the tsarist government, leading to the fall in 1917 of the Romanov dynasty.

Because he helped alleviate the pain of her ailing son, Tsaritsa Alexandra saw Rasputin as a saintly mystic and healer, while many others saw him as a debauched satanic deceiver.

"Pope Leo XIII warned us in 1897 that in the 20th century the devil would be unchained and let loose upon us to do his worse. As part of the wages of sin, the devil also acts in history," Carroll said. "The best example--the most thoroughly established historically--is the fantastic story of Rasputin.

"I think in the end, the Archangel Michael, who had been fighting the devil for eons came down from heaven to kill the devil that had possessed Rasputin when men were unable to do so," he said.<img src="http://www.mypodcast.com/image-107812">

Christendom College’s 18th Annual Summer Institute on Marriage and the Family was held at its Front Royal, Virginia campus on July 21.

Providing a unique political perspective, former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) spoke of the importance of the family in keeping America’s founding values and vision strong.

“The family is under attack,” he said. “No fault divorce laws increase the divorce rate in states by 10-80%; the government does have a role to play. The policies of the left do make a difference. Government support of unmarried single mothers has had a huge impact as well as other programs that make fathers less of a necessity and more of an option for the raising of children and the establishment of families."<img src="http://www.mypodcast.com/image-84789">

Family as the Domestic Church

<itunes:subtitle>Christendom College’s 18th Annual Summer Institute on Marriage and the Family was held at its Front </itunes:subtitle>

Christendom College’s 18th Annual Summer Institute on Marriage and the Family was held at its Front Royal, Virginia campus on July 21.

College President Dr. Timothy O’Donnell spoke on the family as a Domestic Church. “There is no doubt that the family, as we know it, is under attack. Everyone has an obligation to prayerfully read Familiaris Consortio, such an important and beautiful Church document on marriage and the family."

O’Donnell highlighted many of the attacks that the family is under today. “Feminism in its militant form is essentially demonic,” he said, “because it tears apart and rends asunder what God meant to be joined together.

“These days there’s more devotion to Lost, 24, or American Idol than there is to the family rosary,” he lamented.<img src="http://www.mypodcast.com/image-84747">

Seasonal Note: One of the joys of life in Northern Virginia is early and warm springs. The downside of this seasonal change for the Institute of Catholic Culture is that the air conditioner in the Adult Education Room at St. John the Beloved parish is very noisy. The recordings are, accordingly, much noisier whenever the AC is running. Sorry to say that there is nothing to be done about it.<img src="http://www.mypodcast.com/image-30696">
